History
Psyllium has a long history of medicinal uses throughout the world. Psyllium has been used in traditional medicine in India also and finds a mention in ancient Indian Ayurveda as well. Psyllium is also known as Plantago Ovata or Isapghula.
Importance
Our modern food lacks in fiber content as most of it is removed from cereals including wheat flour by hulling, refining and peeling of fruit and vegetable before we consume them. Medical science has concluded that fiber content of our food plays an important role in the natural functioning of the body. Lack of dietary fiber leads to various health disorders. Psyllium is a natural herb which provides sufficient dietary fiber. It does not contain any additives or preservatives.
Production
Psyllium seeds are sown in Nov/Dec and harvesting is done by March/April. There is a minimum use of chemicals by way of fertilizers, insecticide or pesticide as plant does not attract bacteria. It is odourless and bland. Psyllium seeds are brought to market yard & from there to process house. Seeds are cleaned and all physical impurities are removed before processing Psyllium seeds. Psyllium seeds are processed and finally we get Psyllium Husk. Psyllium Husk when pulverized we get powder of 40 or 60 or higher mesh size as per order requirements.
